Why is my Tiscali email not working anymore?
With the amount of spam emails and other junk that can arrive every day, it’s easy to curse your inbox. However, you quickly realise just how much you depend on email when you can no longer get it. While there can be many reasons you’re not receiving your mail, if you have a Tiscali email address or one of the countless others managed by TalkTalk, it may be because of a cull on old email accounts.
A Cull?
TalkTalk has bought its fair share of other internet companies over the years and, as a result, has inherited many legacy email accounts. Just have a look at the following list:
tiscali.co.uk, lineone.net, screaming.net, tinyworld.co.uk, ukgateway.net, worldonline.co.uk, pipex.com, toucansurf.com, homecall.co.uk, homechoice.co.uk, dsl.pipex.com, dial.pipex.net, dial.pipex.co.uk, dial.pipex.com, solo.pipex.com, dsl.pipex.co.uk, onetel.com, onetel.net, onetel.net.uk, oneteldsl.net and telco4u.net.
Until now, TalkTalk has continued to look after these addresses and allowed you access even if you’ve switched internet providers. However, this is now no longer the case: unless you use TalkTalk internet or are willing to stump up £5 a month, you may lose your email.
I’m no longer a TalkTalk customer but need my email. What do I do?
At the time of writing, it appears TalkTalk hasn’t deleted the accounts entirely. If you’re no longer a customer, you can still access your mail through TalkTalk’s webmail. However, given that TalkTalk has threatened to remove these accounts, don’t expect this option to continue indefinitely.
If you need to keep using your email as before, you can always sign back up with TalkTalk for your internet. If that’s not possible, then the other option is to pay for TalkTalk Mail Plus, which costs £5 a month or £50 per year if purchased in advance.
I’m a TalkTalk customer, but I still can’t get my email?
You can keep any TalkTalk-managed email address if you’re an ongoing customer (see the earlier list). However, you must make sure that you associate the email address with your TalkTalk account, otherwise, you risk losing it. So let’s take a look at how you go about doing it.
First, you need to log in to your TalkTalk account by entering your email address and password. If you haven’t registered for a TalkTalk account, you can do so from the same page.
Once logged in, select My Services from the top menu and then select Manage TalkTalk Mail.
Any email addresses already associated with the account will appear in the My mailboxes section. If your address is already listed here, it’s safe from being culled – and also isn’t the cause of any mail problems you may be having.
If the list doesn’t show your email address, then you need to add it. To add an existing TalkTalk mailbox, go to the next section of the page and select the link: Add an existing Mailbox.
Next, enter your email address and password in the boxes, and click Add.
Your email should now appear in the My mailboxes section, safe from TalkTalk’s cleanup and, hopefully, working again if it wasn’t previously. Another benefit is that you can now use this section to change your password if you ever need to.
Conclusion
TalkTalk has decided it’s time for an email cleanout, so you should check if you’re affected. If TalkTalk manages any of your email accounts, this article will help make sure you don’t lose them.
