Outlook will help you create business newsletters this summer

Microsoft is adding a new feature to its Outlook email client that will let users create and track newsletters that are distributed within companies.

Support for newsletter creation is on the roadmap to be rolled out this July, with previews likely to be available from April.

It’s worth noting that Microsoft is only talking about the creation and distribution of newsletters for internal company consumption at this stage. It’s not about to replace services such as MailChimp, which create business newsletters that are sent to external customers and clients.

“Newsletters in Outlook enable customers to create, distribute, and track success for their internal email newsletter,” reads an entry describing the new feature on the Microsoft365 Roadmap site. “This feature will be available in the new Outlook for Windows and the web.”

That seems to suggest this will join the long list of features that don’t make the cut for the Mac version of Outlook.

New Microsoft Teams features

Not unexpectedly, Teams is also slated to receive several new features this spring/summer. The Android app, in particular, is getting several new features.

One of those will allow users to quickly jump into a meeting by scanning a QR code from their smartphone’s camera. “The QR code is found on the Team Room home screen and can also be scanned to start an ad-hoc meeting or cast content from their mobile to the Teams Room display,” the roadmap states. That’s set to start rolling out in April.

That will coincide with a complete refresh of the Teams Rooms interface on Android, which will “match the look and feel of Teams Rooms on Windows,” Microsoft states.

Talking of Teams Rooms on Windows, that’s now getting 4K display UI scaling, although Microsoft adds that 4K video is not supported, meaning you’re not going to look like a movie star on video calls, even if you’ve got a 4K webcam.
